Receptacles placed for printer cartridge recycling

Saturday, September 22, 2007

Madison County officials have placed receptacles in municipal buildings throughout the county so residents can recycle inkjet and laser cartridges from their printers.

County residents used to be able to send their cartridges to Recycle First using individual postage-paid envelopes. But the company has changed its policy due to postal rate increases and will now collect the cartridges from the designated receptacles.

"We realize this new bulk disposal method is not quite as convenient as the individual mailers, but it is more cost effective for Recycle First," said Sharon Driscoll, the county's recycling coordinator, in a press release.

The cartridge collection boxes are in county libraries, town and village clerk offices, the lobby of the County Office Building in Wampsville, the Wampsville and Madison post offices and the Buyea Road landfill office. For more information, call the recycling hotline at 800-721-2208.
